My projects today feature the Welcome Easter stamp set from Stampin’ Up! which has three cute little critters that are perfect for Easter or for Baby cards!! so this set is very versatile and I know you will be able to use it in so many ways!

These little critters can be colored in different ways as these are line images!  The cards I am showcasing in this post are all colored with Stampin’ Blends, a.k.a. Alcohol markers and I am also using a fun sponging technique to color the background!  so let’s get to it! shall we???  😁

How to make Easter Handmade cards

For these cards, I decided not to use designer series paper a.k.a. patterned paper but instead I wanted to try a new technique for the background. I also wanted to show you how to make variations on this technique, so you can get even more ideas on how to modify this technique and get different looks.  Below the picture of these cards.

To make the background on these Easter handmade cards, I made templates that I would use as a stencil. I made two of these templates using the Stitched So Sweetly dies so that I could have different sizes on the sponged background of the cards. For instance the Chick and the Sheep used the largest template and the bunny used the smaller.

I then sponged the backgrounds using stamping sponges. Please note that I cut the sponge into smaller sections, so that I can have one sponge per color. I attach a tab on the top of each sponge using the circle tab punch in the color that I will use for that sponge. That helps me ensure I am not mixing colors.

The Color – Combination

For these cards I used the following card stock colors:

The Chick card

  • Mango Melody
  • Pumpkin Pie
  • Whisper White

The Sheep card

  • Smoky Slate
  • Coastal Cabana
  • Whisper White

The bunny card

  • Gorgeous Grape
  • Coastal Cabana
  • Whisper White

Easter Handmade Card #1 (Chick)

How to make Easter Handmade cards using the Welcome Easter stamp setFor this first card, I used daffodil delight and pumpkin pie ink pads for the background, I started first with the lighter color and then I added the darker. Tip – is always easier to go darker than going lighter, so always start with the light color and add color to your liking.

For the die cut under the chick and under the sentiment, I used the Painted labels dies. Please note that I cut the circle label from the same card stock I used as a mat of the whisper white card stock. This always helps me save on paper.  😉

The Chick was colored using alcohol markers, for its body I used So Safron and Daffodil Delight. for its beak and head feathers I used Pumpkin Pie. The cheeks were added using Flirty Flamingo! Doesn’t he look cute?

If you want to watch a video coloring the same chick but with Watercoloring please watch this video!

Easter Handmade Card #2 (Sheep)

How to make Easter Handmade cards using the Welcome Easter stamp set For this second card, I use coastal cabana and Bermuda bay for the backgrouund. Once I sponged the background I then stamped the flowers with Bermuda Bay without removing the template/stencil.  This kind of look like creating your own patterned paper, don’t you think? 😉 I then added the sentiment onto the sponged area using memento ink.

The label under the the sheep was die cut using the Stitched Sentimental dies. I added a banner and silver thread under the sheep.  I think that added a little of texture to the card.

The Sheep was also colored with alcohol markers. Its face was colored with gray granite and flirty flamingo, its bow was colored with Bermuda bay, and its body was colored with pool party. Please note that whenever the area is mainly white I use pool party just to add a bit of shadow, it is minimum so don’t add too much.

Easter Handmade Card #3 (Bunny)

How to make Easter Handmade cards using the Welcome Easter stamp set For the last card, I used coastal cabana and gorgeous grape for the background, same as with the first card please start with the lighter color and then the darker color.  After the background is complete you then spatter it with gorgeous grape using the stampin write marker.  If you don’t know how to do this, make sure you watch the video tutorial below. 🙂

The label under the sentiment comes from the painted label dies. The sentiment was stamped in the gorgeous grape strip and then cut the ends of this strip with the Tailored tag punch to for the banner shape.

The bunny was colored as well with alcohol markers, for this little guy I used gray granite and flirty flamingo.
