How to make Beautiful handmade cards for your friends
If you have been following me for a while, you know I love to use a set of products to come up with cards ideas only using those elements. And it is using this concept that helped me to make these handmade cards.
You see, when you select just a few set of products, you began to focus more and then the ideas flow even better. This is because you get less distracted or overwhelmed on how to even start or what to use for your cards. In fact you kind of fuel your creativity by challenging yourself to just stick to those products and nothing more.
But first let me share with you the following process to help you create beautiful handmade cards for your friends every single time!
The Process to make Easy Handmade Cards
The following process is the one I created to help me design cards super easy!
- Select a few products that coordinate. I would recommend at least the following
- A stamp set or die set that can stand by itself
- a label die set – optional
- Designer Series Paper a.k.a. patterned paper
- Color coordinated cardstock
- Embellishments – I try to pick a ribbon and maybe some sort of gems
- Select the Color Combination you want to use
- Pick which color you want to use for the card base and which color you wan to use as a highlight
- Select a sketch to follow
- Simpler sketches are usually best as these are easier to substitute with the products you have selected
- Have fun and create your card

The Color Combination
As usual I got inspiration from the designer series paper to get the color combination for my cards. the only ones that were not included in the DSP were the greens, however since the Peony dies had leaves I decided to pair my color combo with a soft combination of greens that I think work really nice.
Sketches and other details
Below you will see the sketch that I used for each of these cards as well as other details to make it easy for your to put together. Also below you will find the Video tutorial where you will see how you can make these cards step by step.
Handmade Card #1
For all my cards I actually focused on the die set rather than a stamp set. I loved the Peony dies so much, and I thought these large flowers would be perfect as the focal point for all the cards.
You could actually change this to a large stamped image, or even a large cut out image from patterned paper, for example.
Also note that in the sketch I changed the circle for the flower. Always think how you can use the sketch to fit what you want to use, like in this case I changed the shape.
Handmade Card #2
This second card follows as well an easy sketch and similar to the last card I changed the circle for the peony.
Also in this card, I used the designer series paper as the background of the card. This will show you again how you can change parts of a sketch. For instance you can substitute elements on the sketch with patterned paper, or you can use embossed card stock as well. This are just a few alternatives of changes you can make to the sketches.
Handmade Card #3
And this final card pretty much follows the same things I discussed in the previous card details. Like I said, once you have the sketches and the products you want to use, it comes really easy to put the cards together..
