Hi there! I am thrilled you stopped by today as I am showing you how to make three easy “Thinking of you” handmade cards for friends. These cards showcase beautifully the Honey bee bundle and the Golden Honey specialty designer series paper from Stampin’ Up! I know you will love making them!
How to make Thinking of you handmade cards for friends
As the title explains, today’s projects is three “thinking of you” handmade cards perfect for your friends. Below you can find more of details about each of the cards. After those little snippets you will find the video tutorial where I will go step by step on how to actually make these cards.
But before we go into how to make these cards, let me explain my process when creating cards in general.
The first thing I always do, is to have the theme in mind. This could be Thank you cards, or Birthday cards, or any other theme. Once you have the theme in mind, then I can see what stamp set would go perfect for the theme I selected.
In this case, I knew I wanted to do Thinking of you handmade cards for friends, a I noticed a sentiment on the Honey Bee stamp set that said thinking of you! so I decided to use this set since it had the sentiment that would go perfect with my theme!
Since I picked the Honey bee bundle, I needed to pick the rest of the elements on my cards, and as you can imagine, I decided to use the Golden Honey Specialty designer series paper, a.k.a. DSP or patterned paper.
This patterned paper coordinates perfectly with the Honey Bee bundle, and the best part is that it is one of the items you get for FREE during sale-a-bration!! how great is that???
If you don’t know about sale-a-bration, please go to the supply list section, where I explain more about this promotion. I will share with you how you can get this DSP for FREE!
Color combination
Now that I have the stamp set and the patterned paper selected, it’s time to look for the colors and embellishments. The best tip I can share with you, is to pick colors from the designer series paper!
One of the benefits of using Stampin’ Up! is that all of their products are color coordinated. This means the ribbon, the ink, the cardstock and any other element will coordinate perfectly.
For these cards I used mainly:
- Basic Black
- Whisper White
- Daffodil Delight
- Gold
Thinking of you handmade card #1
For this first thinking of you handmade card I used an easy layout, as shown in the picture.
For the focal point I used the hive image stamped in daffodil delight and two of the bees on this set.
One tip here to make those little bees really black is to stamp them using your stamp positioning tool a.k.a. stamparatus.
I used the stamparatus as I can reink the image and stamp again, knowing it will line up perfectly. If you are curious about this tip, I would recommend watching the video tutorial linked below.
Thinking of you handmade card #2
For the second thinking of you handmade card, I went again with a simple layout however, I added a little dimention on the way I created the focal point.
I die cut the hive from the whisper white paper, and then glue down the negative part of the die cut on top of the hive giving some dimension. But before gluing this down, i have added the honey comb die cut to the back of the whisper white.
This trick gave a lot of dimension to the hive, and it just makes it pop up even more! It is hard to see this on the picture, but believe me, it looks fantastic.
Also note that I colored the DSP using the daffodil delight alcohol marker, a.k.a. stampin’ blends, and this added a lot of life to the card. You can see how the color coordination that I talked before, makes it so easy on the card design.
Thinking of you handmade card #3
This last thinking of you handmade card is as well an easy lay out.
The way I started with this idea, was by picturing the round sentiment on a circle. And from there I came up with the focal point.
Again you can see that I have colored the DSP with daffodil delight alcohol marker on the bees to better coordinate with the whole card.
So now that you have seen all three cards, let me know in the comments which one is your favorite!
