Hi friend! I am so glad you stopped by today to my blog as I will be sharing with you some tips to learn how to make Birthday handmade cards using patterned paper. I know you will see how easy these are to make.
Three Birthday Handmade Cards
On the picture below you can see the Three Birthday cards that I will be showing you how to make. As you can see, I am using the same paper collection.
I love using the same paper collection as I get a lot of inspiration from the colors included in the paper pack, usually that is how I start designing to be honest. I usually pick a designer series paper (DSP) a.k.a. patterned paper collection and then I see which colors call my attention.
In this case, the paper collection includes cherry cobbler, petal pink, pool party, basic black, whisper white and a light silver foil. Since I loved how the petal pink, pool party and whisper white look together, I decided to go with this color combo for this set of cards.
From here, I start playing with sketches or past cards to get ideas for the layout of the card. I usually cut a few things just to help me visualize how things look together and once I like how it looks then I cut the actual paper for the cards.
Details on the birthday handmade cards
To make easier how to make this birthday handmade cards, I added some details of each of the cards on this set.
Please note that at the end of this post there is also a video tutorial to show you how to make these birthday handmade cards step-by-step. Especially if you are a visual learner.
Birthday Handmade Card #1
The first birthday handmade card uses a very simple layout as you can see. The focal point on this card is mainly the designer series paper. I love how the whisper white frames highlighted both the larger piece and the square of DSP.
For this card I added the sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set on a whisper white circle that was then layered on a larger basic black circle. Also I colored two little flowers from the Free as a Bird stamp set using the stampin’ blends a.k.a. alcohol markers and fussy cut them. I then added a champagne jewel rhinestone to the center of the flowers and added them as embellishments to the card. Finally I added a bow using the petal pink metallic edge to the card.
Birthday Handmade card #2
For the second Birthday handmade card, the layout is still using still a lot of the designer series paper as you can see.
The sentiment on this card is from the So Sentimental stamp set, I love the font on this sentiment. I think it goes really nice with this DSP, don’t you think?
One thing you can note, is that this time for the embellishment I fussy cut the flowers from the same DSP. I love, love, love, when I can cut images from the same patterned paper! as this coordinates perfectly with the card I am making. So one of the things I pay attention is finding paper packs where I can cut images, as then the designing of the cards is even easier!
Birthday Handmade Card #3
For this last birthday card I used way less DSP compared to the last two cards, however the focal point was still using elements from the DSP.
On this one card you can see that almost all layers are cardstock, however note that I embossed both cardstock layers with embossing folders! I love using the embossing folders as these add a lot of dimension.
I think this is my favorite card from this set!
So with this set of Birthday handmade cards you can see that using a designer series paper to make a set of cards makes the process super easy! You can see another example here. On this post I show how to use the designer series paper as well as the same sketch and get a different look on your cards, I know that you will love seeing the cards on this post.
