Ok, so without further ado, so let’s get started!

How to make Cute Halloween Cards

As I was mentioning in the introduction, for these Halloween cards I wanted to use the Have a Hoot Bundle from Stampin’ Up!.

This set has different sets of little owls, all super cute. And even better, these owls can be used for so many occasions. So check it out, I am sure you will love it.

As usual, once I selected the stamp set to use, I looked for designer series paper to get the idea of colors I wanted to use for my projects. And once I had selected the color combo, then it was just matter of selecting sketches to make cards.

This process makes it easy to come up with card ideas every single time. Give it a try and you will see.

The color combo

Selecting the colors for my cards is always very easy when I based it on the patterned paper I want to use.. this always ensure that I have a cohesive project and that they look color coordinated.

For these cards, I decided on the following color combo.

One thing you will note is that the Gorgeous Grape was not part of the designer series paper. Instead, this was my own addition. Mainly because I knew this color would pop up even more the cape on the owl.

So, try to see if you can add a highlight color to your color combo… sometimes that adds a lot to the card..

Sketches & Details

Below you will see the sketches I used for each of the cards you are seeing in this post and the corresponding card, as well as some of the details.

If you want to learn how to make these cards step by step, then make sure you watch the video tutorial below. I also show you in detail how to color using the stampin’ blends a.k.a. alcohol markers.

Handmade Card #1

For this first card I loved the cluster of die cuts together to build up the card. Having a small owl as the image for my card, kinda forced me to think of ways to make it stand out, and having a small cluster of die cuts helped a lot.

I also added some rhinestones that I colored with the basic black stampin’ blend. You can do this with ribbons and gems to get embellishments in any color that you need. Plus when you use Stampin’ Up! you will get embellishments that color coordinate perfectly.

Handmade Card #2

For the second card I added a punched diamond made with the tailored tag, and to add a second layer I added two more diamonds punched in basic black. Note that I glue them where a you can see only a little border. you can do this to add mats to the little pieces.

I particularly liked the ribbon underneath the white diamond. This is the first time I have done this, and I am not gonna lie I think I will be doing this again soon as I really like how it looked.

Also having the ribbon and the diamond gave a great layout to add the little owl as the focal point.

Handmade Card #3

And finally on this card, I loved the layout in general. Not sure if you can tell, but I have added a layer of basic black on top of the basic black card base, but the top layer has a texture from the Tasteful Textile #D embossing folder. This makes this layer pop up.

I have really enjoying adding texture with the embossing folders. These add a lot of wow factor to your cards with really not much work. So give it a try!
