Today I wanted to share with you three cute winter cards to make for your friends and loved ones! As I am sure they will love getting one of these during the holidays..
Not to mention that these cards have a more generic sentiment, so you can send these for the people who does not celebrate Christmas? that way you still keep sharing the love during other holidays during the winter.. Is that not clever? I thought so 😉
Plus this post is part of an amazing blog hop that will showcase projects for other holidays but Christmas! so I am sure you will get so many more ideas that you really want to check out all the other blogs participating in this blog hop!
So without further ado, here are the three cutest cards featuring the Warm and Toasty Stamp set!! and I will be honest, while I love all the critters in this set, I cant get enough of these cute polar bears!! I just love them!!
And even better these are great for making tons of cards, as you dont have to color for hours!! lol.. Don’t get me wrong I love coloring, but when I need to make several of them for the holidays, I definitely enjoy making simpler coloring like these polar bears.. I will go into more detail later on..
Three Cute Winter Cards
So for these cards I wanted to use the polar bear, but this stamp set is not part of a suite, so I needed to pick everything from scratch (in a way).. So I decided to go with the Snowflake Splendor Designer series paper (DSP)!!!
As the name says it, it is all about snowflakes. So I thought it would go really well with the winter cards I wanted to make!
Color Combination
The next thing I always try to decide is the color combination. Everything is so much easier when you have selected the colors you want to play with.
So since I decided to use the snowflake splendor DSP, I proceeded to look for the pattern I liked the most. This would then help me in deciding the color combo.
I decided to use the patterns that had pool party and whisper white.. and from the paper, I saw some patterns with the Highland Heather and Purple Posy, so I decided to use that color as a highlight color. And what best than use this color for the hat and the scarf on the cute polar bear!!!
After all I wanted these cards not to look Christmas-y, since I wanted to use these for other holiday.. So the color combo is the following
What do you think? do you like it? I definitely loved it!! and I think that it was a great combo for these cute winter cards!
Once I had selected the color combo, then it was easy to pick up embellishments that would go well with these colors..
This is what I love the most from Stampin’ Up!.. All their products color coordinate!!, so it is easy to just pull out cardstock, ink, embellishments in the colors from the color combination!
For these cards, it was the adhesive-backed snowflakes and the snowflake splendor ribbon which has a sheer color with these colors!
Other Details
Finally its time to put together the cards!! so at this time I usually think of layouts. Here are the sketches I came up with for these cute cards..
Usually I just start playing with label die cuts, so that I see how these look in a particular layout or sketch until I am happy with how it looks.
I cannot recommend enough to invest in all the label dies!! seriously.. you can create sooooooo many layouts just by switching labels on whatever layout or sketch you want! I promise you!!
So for these cards I decided to use the Celebration dies!! these are becoming one of my favorite ones!! I used them in the past 2 blog posts.. so check them out, to see a few more examples.. you will see that these always make my cards pop!!
- On this post, I used them for a window in a fun fold as well as a label for another fun fold card.
- On this post I used them to create Christmas cards
Coloring the Polar Bears!
As I was mentioning earlier in the post, I thought these polar bears were super easy to color!! Specially if you are thinking about making several of these!! And so I wanted to share with you a close up on the polar bear, so you can see in more detail how you can color these..
I colored the images on these cards with the Stampin’ Blends, a.k.a. alcohol markers. Since these markers are from Stampin’ Up! they color coordinate beautifully with the color combo!!
Now, when the image is mainly white I love to just outline some areas of the image with either pool party light or gray granite light, that way it looks like it has some shadows and it looks finished!
And for any critter I love to add little cheeks with the flirty flamingo light. This is just a little circle with a light hand. They always look so cute!!
For the hat and the scarf, I used the Highlight Heather light for the main areas and then color a little shadow with the light of the Purple Posy. And to finish this cute little polar bear I added Wink of Stella in all the white areas of the hat and the scarf. And then added Crystal Effects to the nose and the skates!! This honestly added so much to the bear!!! So give it a try!!! you will love it!
