Have you been wanting to try to some fun folds for your cards? if so, then you are going to enjoy this post as I share with you three easy Fun Folds to make!
These are super easy to make and what is best is that you can make them for any occasion! So give it a try and have fun with them!
For these cards though I focused on Fall cards that I could use during Thanksgiving, but as I already mentioned you could customize them to any occasion you want, just change the paper and the stamp set and you are done!
The Color Combination
For these cards I used the Gilded Autumn Designer series paper, which as usual helped me select the color combination. This is truly an easy way to get color combos without any trouble!
Plus Stampin’ Up! really makes it even easier as all their products color coordinate beautifully! so once you pick your colors you can pull the cardstock, ink pads and embellishments on these colors and start to play!
The Sketches
Once I have selected the color combination, then I go ahead and look for Sketches!
The biggest tip I can give you when selecting them is to pick sketches that are simple, as these offer the most of the possibilities. I said this, because it is easier for your to change shapes, colors, designer series paper, or textures. Believe me! Sketches can help you unlock your creativity..
Below you can see the sketches I used for my cards.
Fun Fold Card #1
One of the things I wanted to do with these cards was to incorporate the window sheets! I love them, but I almost always forget about them.. so I have been trying to use them more.. you will see another sample in a future post from another card I made using these window sheets!
If you are not familiar, Window sheets are like acetate sheets, that are sturdy enough and you can use them to do shaker cards, or in my case to make windows.
It honestly step up your cards!
The card above open like a tri fold card. On this card, I placed the window sheet in between the Early Espresso and the designer series paper. This makes it more aesthetic from both in and out sides.
Also, Since the embellishments on the front of the card were glued to the window, I added the same label die cut, as in the front, to cover the back. This not only covers the adhesive from the embellishments, but also gives you another area for you to write to your recipient. You could add another stamped sentiment to it.
On the video tutorial at the end of this post, you can see exactly how to put this fun fold together!
Fun Fold Card #2
For the second fun fold card, I wanted to do a gate fold card! This is very easy to make, you start with a card base of 8 1/2″ x 5 1/5″ and you score it at 2 1/8″ from both ends of your card base (on the long side).
For my card, I just added a front panel that I decorated with the leaves from the stitched leaves dies. Please note that when you are gluing the front panel, you just need to add it to one of the flaps, so that you can open your card!
For the inside I added a piece of Very Vanilla and a little strip of designer series paper to decorate it. You could also stamp the inside with a larger sentiment and some of the leaves from Beautiful Autumn set.
Specially for this type of fun fold card, it adds a lot when you embellish the inside of your card!
Fun Fold Card #3
This one is just even easier, and I call it a hinge card. It looks like a regular card, but the front of your card is made with a window sheet! You could use any other specialty paper, like vellum or even some of the specialty designer series paper.
For these type or cards, you just need to cut your paper 1/2″ larger, to make a hinge so you can glue it down to the back of your card, so it opens like a regular card, but both panels of your card are of different materials!
If you are using a see thru material, like the window sheets, it is important that you cover both sides, so that you don’t see any adhesive when opening your card. This makes your card look great from the inside as well.
In my case, you can see that I added the mat of the front panel to cover the inside of the card.
