Easy Birthday Handmade Cards to make!
For these cards I decided to use the Broadway Birthday Bundle set from Stampin’ Up! This stamp set is not a new set and sadly it is retiring at the end of May 😕
So if you don’t have this set, make sure you add it to your collection (below you will find a link to my store where you can get it). However, you can easily substitute this set with another set that has bold letters for the sentiment or a large die cut. So no worries if you read this post and this bundle is no longer available.
For these cards I actually decided to use patterned paper, contrary to my typical process, I decided to show case mainly the stamp set with the coordinating dies. so lets talk about the details of these cards.
The Color Combination
The color combination that I chose for these cards were based on bright colors and so I used:
- Coastal Cabana
- Flirty Flamingo
- Pineapple Punch
- Basic Black
- Whisper White
- Gold
When working with bright colors, I try to focus on mainly one color, which in this case was the Coastal Cabana, and then add highlight colors, so in this case these were Flirty Flamingo and Pineapple Punch.
The Sketches and other details
Birthday Card #1
For this first card I used one of the sentiments on the stamp set and stamp it tone on tone on the card base. This made the effect of patterned paper if you will. and as you can see I used both of the highlight colors on the card. I use the Pineapple Punch for the little sentiment so it didn’t compete too much with the Flirty Flamingo.
As far as the sentiment, I used a gold foil paper and basic black to due cut the word “wish”, and then glue them together but I moved the gold die cut towards left, that way you can get the effect of the shadow on your word without too much fuss.
Birthday Card #2
For this second card, I used watercolor paper to make a watercolor smudge background. you can watch the video tutorial below if you want to see how I added those speckles on the background.
Same as with the last card, I did the same technique on the word die cuts, though this time I used gold glimmer paper.
Birthday Card #3
Finally for the last card, I wanted a very clean look, and in this case I only used one highlight color. I love how the balloon on this card pop up a lot.
As far as the sentiment, I used a cool technique for embossing only half of a word, so you can see how I got the Wish stamped word in both Coastal Cabana and Gold! so make sure you check out the video tutorial to learn this technique.
